Events Coordinator Internship Position + Illuminate

Melanin MeetUps’ Illuminate talks are powerful talks that center the African-American narrative and experience for global ideation. Through our talks, we galvanize ordinary citizens to take action in their own lives and self-reflect on where they fit in in society’s attempt to make a better world. Known as the Black Ted Talks, from leading luminaries, to titans of change, Illuminate talks bring together the best minds to encourage storytelling for cultural and social change with the African-American experience at the center. Notable guest talks are, U.S. State Senator Cory Booker, Malcolm Kenyatta, Van Lathan, Park Cannon and many more! 

We’re expanding our virtual events! We need an events coordinator intern to help us expand as we roll out industry specific Illuminate series in 2022. 

Are you looking to get on the ground floor and help build out exciting events for the future? Does entertainment and justice work inspire you? Are you looking to get involved, but don’t know where to start? This position is for you.

Job Description:

• Source and book speakers for upcoming Illuminate events and video content

• Coordinate time and logistics of speakers

• Help to develop press kit, proposal and sponsorship package for Illuminate events

• Attend events to supervise process and make sure events go according to plan

• Work with Social Media Manager to coordinate marketing of event across online channels

• Find potential sponsors, partnerships and influencers to increase brand presence of Illuminate event

• Look into future business opportunities of Web 3.0, NFT, Metaverse and Social Tokens

Job Requirements:

• 2+ years of event coordinating experience and influencer partnership outreach 

• Post-secondary education in Event Management, Marketing, Communications, Business (OR sufficient experience)

• Plus if experience in Web3 

• Working experience with Social management platforms, Hootsuite, Canva, YouTube, Tiktok, Discord

• Added plus if experience with Final Draft, Adobe Premiere Pro, Illustrator and/or social video cutdown platforms

• Experience working with budgets

• Ability to problem solve

• Ability to multitask

• Professional demeanor

Community Manager + Melanin MeetUps

Are you passionate about social justice and mental wellness work? Do you think you’re the voice to gather people around a cause? Are you comfortable in virtual and physical spaces? Are you looking to get involved, but don’t know where to start? This position is for you. Melanin MeetUps is seeking a community manager intern to build out and help expand its virtual MeetUps from the ground up. Our MeetUps serve as a central force to the MMU Universe and are designed to be a collaborative experience for members to develop initiatives through shared discussions and data. This is how we build community.

Job Description:

• Organize various community building initiatives 

• Establish and lead bi-weekly MeetUps among community members and new audience

• Build community presence across MMU Social Universe 

• Build community presence on Discord

• Work with social media manager to build MeetUp presence

• Develop strategy for virtual expansion for MeetUps

• Source key partners for community development

• Partner with organizations

Job Requirements:

• Web3 experience

• 2+ years of community building

• Post-secondary education in Event Management, Marketing, Communications, Business (OR sufficient experience)

• Strong experience with Zoom

• Strong leadership skills

• Comfortable with speaking skills 

• Working experience with Social management platforms, Hootsuite, Canva, YouTube, Tiktok, Discord

• Added plus if experience with Final Draft, Adobe Premiere Pro, Illustrator and/or social video cutdown platforms

• Ability to problem solve

• Ability to multitask
